When I saw this Buy 1 Take 1 Promo of Cream Cheese and Butter of SnR  I got really excited, but I was afraid that we would have to line-up just to get these items.  So we decided to go there Mar. 26, the day before the sale, we thought "Who knows, we  could get an early glimpse of the Sale".  And true enough, there were alot of items already on sale, specially the cream cheese, butter and some other cheeses too.  Btw, we checked the expiration dates, they are still a few more months away before their expiration dates.  Yey!!

Days before going to the sale, I already did my research and found out that we can actually freeze butter, cream cheese and other kinds of cheeses.

BUTTER
According to the website dairygoodness.ca, we can keep butter refrigerated in its original wrapper. The foil laminated paper helps prevent spoilage from exposure to light and air, and also protects butter from picking up the flavour of other foods. If you wrap it well, once opened, both salted and unsalted butter will keep in the fridge for three weeks. However, if you plan to keep it longer than a few weeks, butter will keep its fresh taste better if you wrap it again in extra foil or plastic.

Butter freezes well but should be further protected by over-wrapping it in additional foil or heavy-duty plastic wrap or a freezer bag. Properly wrapped, salted butter will keep in the freezer for up to one year. After this, it may begin to lose the fresh butter flavour and pick up other odours or flavours from the freezer. Unsalted butter will keep in the freezer for up to three months.

CREAM CHEESE
You can freeze cream cheese, but it will change the texture considerably, making it more crumbly and less creamy. Frozen cream cheese is best used in baked or cooked dishes where the change won't be noticeable, this is according to the website thespruceeasts.com.

Unopened cream cheese can be safely stored in the fridge for a month past the sell-by date stamped on the box. Of course, you should always discard any cheese that has mold on it or that smells or looks bad. Trust your senses and toss anything that's questionable.

Some websites recommend adding another layer of wrapping to the cream cheese before you freeze it, but that really isn't necessary. Blocks of cream cheese already come wrapped in foil and boxed in cardboard, and that's ample protection against freezer burn. Just tuck them in the freezer and try to use them as soon as you can.

When you're ready to pull some cream cheese from the freezer, just shift it over to your fridge and allow it to thaw. Then use it as you normally would for cooking or baking.

OTHER CHEESES
You can freeze cheese successfully if you’re planning to use it for cooking purposes. Frozen cheese will remain safe to consume, but it will typically change texture and often become crumbly once thawed, this is according to the website stilltasty.com.

While you can freeze just about any type of cheese, the firmer varieties — such as cheddar, gouda and Swiss — tend to come through the freezing process with the least damage to texture and flavor. For best results, keep cheese frozen for no more than 6 months.

When freezing cheese, cut it into portions no larger than 1/2 pound each, and wrap tightly in airtight wrapping or place inside a heavy-duty freezer bag. You can also grate cheese before freezing and place it in a freezer bag.

Be sure to thaw the frozen cheese in your refrigerator, and plan to use it within two or three days.
